From Runiki

The 10,000 meters event is the longest race regularly run on the track, constituting 25 laps around. It is also a popular distance for road races and comprises the running portion of an Olympic distance triathalon. It is widely considered to be one of the most grueling track races (perhaps second only to the steeplechase) because of the mental strength an athlete needs to run 25 laps around a track.
