From RunikiBilly Mills (born on June 30, 1938) has been the inspiration for countless runners ever since he did the impossible and won the Olympic 10K coming from an unranked position. En route he PR'ed by 50 seconds and set an Olympic record. Mills was born in Pine Ridge, South Dakota at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. He is an Oglala Lakota (Sioux) Indian and his Lakota name is Makata Taka Hela, which means "respects the earth". He remains the only American to win the 10K in Olympic history and he did it in fantastic fashion. He is the epitome of grit, determination and mental fortitude - the exact qualities that propelled him to this astonishing win. |
