RunnerMonkey >> Calf Stretch |
From RunikiPerforming the calf stretch is important not only for lower leg health, but also for foot pain! Oftentimes, foot problems are caused by tight calves. These two simple stretches will help keep your calves and feet feeling good! Start with one leg in front, one in back, toes facing foward. I like to put my hands on my hips, but you can do anything you'd like with your hands. Keep your back straight, and make sure your back leg is straight. Push into your front leg so it bends just to the point where your knee is lined up with your ankle and adjust the distance between your feet until you feel a stretch in your back calf muscle. Hold for 18-30 seconds and repeat if you'd like. See my picture below.
To stretch the lower part of your calf, position yourself as described above, only this time bend your back leg. You will feel a nice stretch in the lower, back part of your leg and maybe in your foot as well. See my picture below.
