From Runiki

A Groin pull is a tear in the adductor (inner thigh) muscles. These are some of the most common injuries in runners, and are especially likely to occur while racing because of the quick starts and stops involved.

Prevention

The best way to prevent a groin pull or strain is to properly warm up and stretch the area before making sudden movements.

Treatment

The standard treatment of running easy for a few days, applying heat/ice and taking anti-swelling painrelievers is the recommended treatment. Try to avoid quick starts, stops and side-to-side movements while healing to prevent reinjury of the weakened muscle. Some find running on a treadmill to be beneficial during rehabilitation because it provides a smooth surface and zero turns.
