Memorial Stadium is part of the Seattle Center and is owned by the Seattle School District. It was built to honor former Seattle high school youths who gave their lives in World War II. It was dedicated in 1948, and a memorial wall, inscribed with the names of the war dead, was erected outside the stadium a year later. It is now a site for school athletics and various concerts and events, including numerous races and the Seattle Marathon.
